The twins

Who knew breastfeeding could be so complex! When it seems that all is going well with this whole lactation process something new comes up and adds a whole new element to the process. In the beginning, it was hard for baby to latch on because, of course, she was a newborn and everyone has to learn how things are done when they are first introduced to it. Then eventually she got the hang of it and now she latches like a pro! Then, there is the whole sore nipple phase along with engorgement. And latching problems all over again because of the whole engorgement ordeal. Then having to buss out the pump and bottles. Sterilizing all the plastics and getting baby used to the nipple from the bottle and having to latch her on again so that I don't run "dry". Also, trying to remember to eat a well balanced diet let alone remembering to feed myself instead of just getting caught up with tending to baby. I myself have to eat to produce food for baby. Finally, when your body gets adjusted it feels like your not producing enough! Then trying to make a checklist to remind myself to do everything correctly to produce an ample amount of milk, which consists of: staying hydrated, maintaining a well balanced diet, getting enough rest (ha!), staying stress/anxiety free, latching baby on correctly, feeding promptly, expressing milk when needed. See what I mean breastfeeding is my newest hobby!
